The light skin lover, the singer that seemed to take the grace of India, but nothing is further from the truth.

She has had her own triumph of a journey, of finding a place to belong and of people that will love and accept her minus the fame, wealth, and music.

The woman that sings because she wants to, the woman that has the joy of music. It is easy to dismiss her, but it is hard to know people especially when their wounds are not apparent. And she appears that she got it all, but she doesn’t and that is the irony of life.

Doing for others who look like they don’t need any doing. That is the salvation that allows us to step out of our glory and of space to see the humanity in others. And recognize that somehow we are inextricably linked even when we seem to be polar opposites. That we are sisters, in one, with deep reverence for all, but Alicia ain’t none of that or about all that.

She is happy with the life she is living and her children, and how the music has afforded her luxury that she did not know she could or thought she would have. And life is interesting in that way and has been especially great for Alicia for her material success, and the luxury, and access that life offers.

But life is so much more than materiality. We cannot survive on that alone, and that is where Alicia is. Trying to find purpose and her place as a woman of the world. She is in heat and thirsty for knowledge and companionship that will support her growth in this second phase of her life.

Now she is Alicia’s enlightenment and her journey is just starting.
